This is the second arrest this year of peaceful human rights defenders and ordinary citizens composed mostly of women who have been campaigning for government action on the increasing violence against women.
The mostly women protesters were on their way to the Prime Minister’s house to deliver a letter demanding justice for the murder of Maina Sunuwar, a 15 year-old school girl by government security forces in 2004.
Please find attached urgent appeal letters addressed to UN Special Rapporteurs and to your HR/Civil Society networks including a list of names and their contact details. Kindly circulate. We would appreciate if you can email us with your updates regarding the offices emailed/sent letters by fax.
