EPAF is pleased to announce the launch of the Forensic Games Training Course, which took place in Nepal in June of this year. The Forensic Games is designed as a structured course that can be used to train prosecutors, investigators and human rights defenders in the basic concepts of forensic investigation into cases of forced disappearances and extrajudicial executions
The training course consists of five lessons, including an introduction to forensic science along with 4 lessons that correspond to each step in the investigation process: the preliminary investigation, the documentation and recovery of the evidence, the analysis of the evidence, and the interpretation of the evidence. Each lesson concludes with a scored exercise in which the students must demonstrate their mastery of the material. The exercises are centered around activities related to the investigation of a clandestine gravesite on a board game, which simulates an actual investigation in the field.
The Forensic Games is also conceived as an international competition for countries participating in EPAF’s training course. At the end of the workshops, the total amount of all points earned from each of the five lessons are recorded on EPAF’s website together with each team’s name, the country where the training took place and the date that the course was given. At the end of the year, the top three teams from the competition will be recognized as the Gold, Silver and Bronze award winners.
The Forensic Games Training Course has been translated into English and French and will soon be available in Nepali and Swahili in order to open up participation to countries in Eastern Africa. If your organization is interested in deepening its understanding of forensic investigations into human rights violations and would like to participate in the competition, contact us by sending an email to forensicgames@epafperu.org.
